SPG recently secured the flood defence contract for Wixoe Pumping Station in Suffolk.  The project involved the mechanical preparation of eight mild steel guide channels that the pumping station sluice gates are housed in.  The working area was drained whilst two temporary sluice gates were inserted to hold back the reservoir and adjacent watercourse.  For the duration of the project a temporary water pump was installed at the base of the working environment to remove water that consistently leaked into the dry working area.  Specialist Painting Group adopted a unique method of mechanical preparation that was capable of achieving a recognised blast profile. The specified coating system was a modified two component epoxy that has been designed to be applied to wet surfaces and will continue to cure whilst immersed in water.
