Specialist Painting Group have been working with Volkerbrooks to deliver a mooring platform for a project in Felixstowe. The first element of the project is complete with the final element of the project underway. Our engineers with support from our partners ENC in Doncaster have successfully installed a coating system designed for high salinity environments categorised as C5-M. The mooring platform is hot dip galvanised leading to special attention on the installation of the highly durable coating system.
The mooring platform weighing 13 tones and will serve its tenure in Fekixstowe. The coating system that has been installed is highly durable and is designed to offer corrosion protection in C5-M environments.
The coating system is comprised of three layers. The primer and intermediate coat are epoxy and contain a high concentration of micaceous iron oxide. This laminar pigment reduces the speed at which moisture can reach the steel surface. The topcoat is polyurethane which offers UV stability whilst remaining flexible over time.
