London Eye

London Eye

SPG supported Red 7 Marine in the refurbishment of the London Eye substructure.

The substructure of the London Eye is located in the Thames river underneath the attraction.  The substructure is subject to the tidal conditions found in the Thames, as a result the carbon steel structure requires additional protection from its service environment.

Utilising a floating platform, Red 7 Marine and Specialist Painting Group accessed the substructure using powered access and a tender during low tide.

The existing coating system had suffered deterioration with several areas of complete failure.

The project team carried out mechanical preparation to substrate, whilst mechanically abrading the areas of the existing coating system that remained well adhered to the structure.

Post surface preparation the project team applied the Interzone 954, modified epoxy, protective coating system.
