Specialist Painting Group were brought in to mechaically prepare and insulate a large process heat exhanger. The carbon steel heat exchanger had began to oxidise due it being stored outside through a period of poor weather. The asset weighed twelve tonnes and was a single element of an entire food processing line. Due to the size and weight of the heat exchanger the decision was made to mechanically prepare the surface area and solvent clean it before we installed the coating system.
The system SPG specified comprised of a hight temperature prime capable of remaing stable at temperatures up to 425ºC. The intermdeite coat was a micro-particle insulation that was spray applied using a bespoke airless spray system designed by Specialist Painting Group. The specified topcoat was a high temperature, high solids epoxy. This topcoat was chosen for its temperature range and resistance to chemicals.
The project was completed in the paintshop and once completed was shipped abroad to begin its service life on site.
